Progress on Clan Line at Crewe at the beginning of September 2015

  • The boiler and ashpans have been removed, showing parts of the loco that you can't usually see

  • The stainless steel smokebox floor had to be cut out, to gain access to the bolts that fix the smokebox to the saddle. It will be refitted, once the boiler is back on the frames.
  • The top row of flues has been removed, and all the other flues, and the tubes, have been cut, ready for removal.
  • The T-bolts, etc., that fix each superheater element to the superheater header.
